Add Your Bow
Ready to add your bow?
Here's a step-by-step guide detailing everything you need to know to get it just right. Note that we do have a 'Guided Setup' option in the application that walks you through each of these steps one by one.
Measurements
Before we dive in, you'll need a few key measurements from your bow. These should be taken when your bow is at full draw. A draw board can be a handy tool to make this process safer and more accurate, as it will hold the bow safely at full draw while you take measurements.
Don't have a draw board? Don't worry. You'll need to be a bit more careful, and you might find it useful to have a friend help you with measurements while you hold the bow at full draw.
Danger
Safety is paramount. If a friend is assisting with measurements, make sure they stay clear of the path of the bowstring and arrow! We recommend visiting your local pro shop to have measurements taken if you don't have a draw board.
Peep Height ("Peep to Arrow")
The first measurement we need is your peep height. This is defined as the vertical distance from the center of your peep sight to the center of your arrow shaft, taken while the bow is at full draw.
If you don't use a peep sight, the measurement is taken from your aiming eye to the center of your arrow shaft while at full draw. You'll want a friend to assist with the measurement in this case.
Tip
A tape measure will do the job, but using a caliper can provide a more accurate measurement.
Success
Aim to get a measurement accurate to the nearest 1/16th of an inch or better. As always, the more accurate your measurements, the more accurate our ballistics calculations!
Sight Radius ("Peep to Pin")
The second measurement needed is your sight radius. This is defined as the horizontal distance from the center of your peep sight to the center of 'the thing you aim with', taken while the bow is at full draw.
The 'thing you aim with' could be a sight pin, a scope lens, a fiber, or whatever else you use to aim at your target.
If you don't use a peep sight, the measurement is taken from your aiming eye instead of a peep while at full draw. You'll want a friend to assist with the measurement in this case.
Success
Success is getting a measurement accurate to the nearest 1/8th of an inch or better. The more accurate your measurements, the more accurate our ballistics calculations!
Tip
If you are using a Dialed Archery Arxos or Pruf sight, remember that your sight radius will change depending on the range your sight is dialed to, as the sight moves closer to you when dialed for longer distances. Measure the sight radius with your sight dialed to the distance you'll use for your first sight-in within our application, so we can accurately account for this change in sight radius. (See the Sight In guide for more details on choosing a first sight-in range.) If using the Quick Start or Downrange Speed sight-in methods, measure the sight radius with your sight dialed to 40 yards or meters (depending on your unit settings).
Add Your Bow to the Application
Now that you've taken your measurements, it's time to add your bow to the application!
From the "My Setups" page, click "Add Bow".
Type in a name for your bow, select your sight, and enter the measurements you took earlier.
Info
If your sight isn't listed, let us know and we'll add it. In the meantime, if your sight tape mounts to a flat surface on your sight, you can select "Other Model". For target sights, we have a few generic options listed as Other <Turns>x<Clicks>
, where <Turns>
is the number of turns per inch of adjustment and <Clicks>
is the number of clicks per turn. If your sight tape mounts to a curved surface, we'll need to add it to the program first.
Once you create your bow, you'll see it listed on the "My Setups" page.
